Weary world traveler
Actual date: October 16, 2008
Day 2? What happened to day 1? I didn’t take any pictures on day 1–that’s what happened. Yes, from the moment we touched down in Indonesia through the end of day 1 I managed to not take a single shot. I’ll hide behind the excuse that I was tired and just ready to relax, but as a self-proclaimed photographer and one who thought about making a half-decent travelog out of the trip that really isn’t good enough. Do better next time.

Day 2 was a mostly restful day. We spent the morning enjoying the relatively cool morning weather, just hanging out and relaxing. Denise is reading through a book on Chinese culture and traditions, trying to cram millenia of customs into a single sitting. At this point I think Denise knows more about Chinese traditions than I do.

Mom holding Sofia while Sofia plays with her "camera"
In this picture Sofia is holding a block that she likes to pretend is her camera. She’ll bring it up to her eye like good ol’ dad does with his big honkin’ SLRs and move her index finger up and down while making a “kuh-chick, kuh-chick” sound mimicking the sound of an SLR taking pictures. She hasn’t quite figured out which index finger to use though, so she uses both.

Duet
Susie and Sofia are playing on the piano that Susie and I spent so much time practicing on when we were kids. I should’ve spent many more hours than I did though, as I turned out to be a not-at-all accomplished and somewhat inept pianist despite years of lessons. Just think: I could’ve grown up to be a somewhat accomplished pianist hopping from gig to gig in various hole-in-the-wall dives instead of this cushy life as a computer programmer and occasional photographer. It’s always the same story, isn’t it? You always wish you had taken better advantage of the opportunities you were given as a child. If only I hadn’t spent so much time in a biker gang, plundering, pillaging, and terrorizing innocent… wait, what?
