Dolcezza Gelato

Yeah, we were full after eating at Bethesda Crab House.  Too full for dessert though?  Not a chance.  On the way back to the Metro, we swung by Dolcezza Gelato for some… uh… gelato.  It was a few blocks away, which gave us a chance to see the sights while letting the crab feast pack down in our stomachs.

Choices, choices

Choices, choices

As far as I can tell from their website, they rotate their flavors based on what ingredients are readily available, in season, etc.  Obviously we couldn’t test their claim in this area since we only went there once, but we were happy with our options.  Denise got some Lemon Opal Basil and Sumatra Cinammon, Susie went with Counter Culture Tiramisu, and I had some Yellow Peach Bourbon and Grapefruit Campari.  Some other interesting sounding flavors that didn’t make the cut for us: Tahitian Vanilla Bean, Mojito, and Dulce de Leche.

We got the small portions, and although true to their size label, being gelato they were also incredibly dense and filling.  These small scoops were like having twice as much regular ice cream.  If you’ve never had gelato, think of the smoothest, creamiest ice cream you’ve ever had that wasn’t soft serve, then imagine it twice as smooth and creamy and you’ll have some idea of the texture of this gelato.  If you have room don’t be afraid to move up a size or 2, but know that it’s deceivingly filling.  They also aren’t shy about their flavors, so a little bit goes a long way.

Everybody was quite happy with what they got.  Sofia was so happy with Denise’s that once they finished Denise’s she turned her attention to me and helped me finish off mine.  Eating.  Machine.
