How’s this for serendipity: we went to Trinity Pres’s Fall Festival yesterday, and I ran into the owner of Ding How! At least I think she is. At the very least she’s the head manager. She’s always there whenever I go there. She was at Fall Festival with a gaggle of other Chinese folks, which I’d guess are her daughter and grandchildren. Of course I start chatting with them about the fact that they’ve moved, etc., and the daughter fills me in on the big talking points.
Here are the crucial details I discovered:
- The new Ding How location on or near the corner of Old Canton and Lake Harbor is this fabled “real” Chinese food restaurant that will serve dim sum. There won’t be 2 new restaurants. Ding How will morph from a solid but run-of-the-mill Chinese place to potentially the Chinese restaurant of choice in the Jackson Metro area. Phoenix rising from the ashes and so forth.
- Yes, they will serve dim sum! Saturdays and Sundays. Don’t know the hours, but considering it’s typically served as brunch they’ll probably start serving at 11 a.m. or so. Don’t quote me; just my guess. They might serve it for breakfast.
- They’re opening in early November. In fact she told me the exact date but in my excitement it failed to register. I’m almost certain it’s a single-digit date. So I’m also almost certain that there will be dim sum served there on Saturday, November 7, 2009.
I’m going to try and call to confirm the date and time of their grand opening and beginning of dim sum serving, and I suggest you do the same if you’re interested. Don’t count on my half-remembered, excitement-addled account for the hard details of exactly when. I just wanted to relay the big news that the dim sum is real and is coming really soon. I’ll update the blog as I discover more details.
