Nifty arrives safe and sound
I’m a regular at the Photography-on-the.net (POTN) forum–a forum for (surprise!) photography, specifically for those who use Canon equipment. The E-P1 has been claiming more and more of my leisure photography time, but my Canon 5D is still the go-to guy for most photographic opportunities.
At POTN there’s a thread entitled “Where’s Nifty?! #2″. It’s a lens sharing thread, the premise being that a donated Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 would be shipped from forum member to forum member, staying with each member for a while during which time said member would take some photos with “Nifty”. Neat, eh? For those not familiar with the lingo, “Nifty Fifty” is a commonly used nickname for the 50mm f/1.8. Now there are 2 other Nifties floating around–1 in Europe and 1 in Australasia.
So after, oh I don’t know, a year and a half or so of waiting (I put my name on the waiting list some time mid-2008 I think), Nifty finally made his way over to my place. As always seems to be the case, he arrived the day after Christmas–after a lot of photo ops and during a super busy stretch for me. I’ve got tons of work to do, so I’m not sure how good of a host I’ll be to Nifty, but I’ll give it my best. I’ve already managed to take him to a couple local restaurants, and I’m heading out with my family to Louisiana in the a.m., so hopefully I can get some shots there too. Being swamped, I haven’t had a chance to go through most of the shots I’ve taken with Nifty, but here are a couple just to prove he’s here–1 taken of Nifty and the last one taken with Nifty.

With traveling to internet-less country and work swamped-ness it might be a week or even more before I post updates on this leg of the Nifty Fifty Adventure. Stay tuned though–I’ll do my best to show him the sights.

I do, but embarrassingly fewer than I had hoped. Turns out I used a dodgy lens, so quite a few shots are out of focus. Email me off-site (ask BP for my address), and I’ll see what I can do.
