No more oil spill!

Oil clean-up site

Oil clean-up site

Yes, I’m back!!!  Boy, who knew having 2 kids would be so much work, especially with a colicky baby?  Not me.  I have some down time and figure what better way to return to the blog then to celebrate the end of the oil gush (ok, probably a bit premature, but let’s hope it’s true) with a blog post about oil?  In a few years we’ll look back at these oil-filled days and reminisce fondly.  Ah, the good old days when oil = bad, and environmentalism = good.  Such simple, innocent times.  “Ah, the Summer of 2010,” we’ll utter with a nostalgic sigh.

I was down at the Mississippi Gulf Coast last weekend for a photo shoot, and while not working I snapped a few oil-related shots.  I came upon this oil clean-up site at the Pass Christian harbor.

Dirty laundry

Nice flatbed trailer loaded up with plastic bags full of oil-soaked sand.  And what are they doing with this refuse?  Dumping it in a landfill a few miles inland of course.  Clean it up, you say?  Why clean when you can dump!

Tarball onna stick

That glistening blob of thick, black liquid at the end of the stick is apparently part of a tarball.  Hadn’t ever seen one in real life before that.

And on that happy note, I’m out!  Hopefully within the next few days I’ll have time to chronicle the less depressing parts of my trip down to the Coast.  Ate some good food–seafood no less!  Must… blog… about… food…
