Seafood gumbo
I had the privilege of being guests to members of the Pass Christian Yacht Club, which is why we were able to eat at their restaurant. They don’t normally let in riff-raff like me. Upon browsing the menu I was surprised to see how reasonable the food prices were. I guess they get you with the membership dues so they can afford to not charge crazy money for food.
A few of us got the seafood gumbo appetizer. The photo might look like a muddy mess, but if you know what you’re looking at you know there’s probably some good stuff in there, and there was–nice lumps of crab, shrimp, etc. Quite good gumbo. I’ve had better, but this one got no complaints from me.

Seafood bisque
Another appetizer that made its way to our table was this seafood bisque. Bits of shrimp, crab, and corn; probably a few other tasty ingredients too.

Reuben
What kind of idiot goes to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and gets a reuben? Me. I’ll admit I’m obsessed with reubens. I want to go to New York almost entirely because of the prospect of finally having an awesome reuben. This particular rendition was not awesome. The meat was dry and a bit skimpy, which meant that it was a serviceable but wholly unremarkable sandwich. Bad choice on my part–I blame myself.

Caesar wrap with shrimp

Ahi tuna
My dining companions had the sense to order proper beach food. The shrimp wrap looks loaded with shrimp, and the tuna has the coloring you want to see from perfectly cooked tuna with a nice sprinkling of seaweed salad mixed in. I should’ve gone with the tuna.
So I’d say give the restaurant a try, but if you don’t know somebody who’s a member of the club you can’t get in so scratch that. I’m not even gonna bother providing the address and contact info so you don’t try anything crazy like walk in there and start ordering willy-nilly. Decent place with reasonable prices, so if you just happen to have a friend who can get you in then give it a shot.
Dude, did the reuben even have any sauce on it? Tsk tsk tsk. We should mos def go to NY and have a culinary trip together.
It did have sauce, but regardless it was a bit sketchy overall. “Eat a real reuben” is pretty high on my list of food goals at this point in my life, but I don’t know when we’ll ever make it to NYC with a newborn and an almost-4-year-old. I wish dropping them off at a relative’s house were a more realistic option
Then again I’d want to at least bring Sofia so she can see NYC. Parenthood, I tell ya…
I am going to be visiting Jackson in a few days. I have been enjoying your posts – definitely giving me some places to hit up in a place I was questioning. Now this makes me want to bring you a reuben, or at least the ingredients to make one. Up here it’s not hard to find a good reuben.
Let me take a wild guess and say that you’re from Albany, NY?
Yeah, totally jealous about the abundance of reubens up there. I hope you enjoy your visit to Jackson. If you need any suggestions on where to eat, hit me up through the contact form and I’ll do my best. Also look in my Blogroll at the bottom of the page for links to other Jackson food blogs. I’m really only a partial food blogger–some of those other folks do food exclusively and have been doing it longer than me.
