Dave Dennis on Jackson Free Press cover
I wasn’t sure how kosher it was to talk about this back when I did the photo shoot, but now that the Dave Dennis for Governor campaign is well and truly under way it’s finally safe to mention it: a while back I got to take some photos for Dave Dennis that he’s now using for his gubernatorial campaign. I saw the latest issue of the Jackson Free Press while at Lumpkins grabbing lunch today, and I did a double-take when I saw one of my photos on the cover. I grabbed a copy and sure enough there was a photo I took on the front cover and a few more sprinkled throughout the article.

Taking photos is fun, but it’s also very gratifying to see the results of your labor being enjoyed/used by your clients. Typically I don’t get to see photos being used by clients since most are portraits, weddings, etc., where I wouldn’t see the prints being displayed unless they’re friends of mine and I visit their house, so it’s nice to see some of my work out in the wild. I’m sure more seasoned photographers are more blasé about it, but hey… it’s all very exciting to me. Nothing particularly artful or ground-breaking photography-wise, but it was good solid work I was happy with and it’s good to see that they were happy enough with it to use it for promotional material.

Painting by Charlotte Meadows
After the portrait session with Ella and Emma, we were invited in to take a look at a painting. We had shot a portrait session with the girls last year too, and from that session one photo was selected to be converted into a painting by an artist named Charlotte Meadows. I’ve never had any of my photos converted into a real-deal painting before. Pretty cool, eh? Not that anybody asked me, but I heartily approve of this work. Oh, and here’s the original photo from last year as reference:

Charlotte, if you’re out there please send me your contact info so I can let people know how to get in touch with you.

Ella and Emma
Denise and I shot a portrait session with these darling twin sisters Ella and Emma a few weeks ago. Kids are always a challenge to photograph as they are very much their own creatures–posing kids is very much a broad strokes and hope for the best type of exercise. Thankfully I’m not the posing type anyway, and these girls played happily while I snapped away. Thanks for such a fun photo session! » Continue Reading…

Guys Night Out at Paul Anthony's Market
No, the smoke is not Paul Anthony’s Market on fire. It’s the fragrant smoke of delicious meats on the grill during the Guys Night Out event at Paul Anthony’s Market. As previously noted, this was an event to benefit the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital. Food, drink, cigars, and wrestling were the main draws. I had some free time, so I thought, “Why not?” Take some photos at an event for a good cause and enjoy some good food while I’m there. Sounded good to me. » Continue Reading…
