Denise teaching Sofia how to play Candy Land

Denise teaching Sofia how to play Candy Land

Continuing our recent family tradition of spending Christmas at our house with my side of the family (usually just my sister Susie, but this year my cousin and his wife too) then going to Louisiana a few days later to visit Denise’s side, we did so again this Christmas.  Only it was more like New Year’s Eve by the time we got there.  We had planned to leave earlier, but I had a project I needed to hammer on and required internet access to do some of the testing, and since there is none where we were going we put off our trip for a couple days. » Continue Reading…

Why do we even buy kids presents?  I mean, really.  Just give them a cardboard box and they’re happy as a clam. » Continue Reading…

Sal and Phil's Po-Boy - Seafood

Sal and Phil's Po-Boy - Seafood

Work is killing me and I’m still swamped, but I’m gonna die if I don’t take a break, so I’m doing so by putting up another Nifty Fifty post.  All pictures here are courtesy of Nifty.  The day Nifty arrived, we went to Sal and Phil’s for dinner.  My cousin and his bride were in town for Christmas.  With him having been away from the South for 10 years and her never having been to Mississippi, I racked my brain for Mississippi- or at least Southern-authentic food for them to have while they were here.  We had an awesome Christmas dinner and delicious leftovers for days (post on that to come once the smoke clears), but it was time to switch it up a bit, so Sal and Phil’s it was.  Oh, and my sister Susie was here too, but she visits at least once a year and is more excited about getting sushi instead of Southern fare while she’s down here. » Continue Reading…

Painting by Charlotte Meadows

Painting by Charlotte Meadows

After the portrait session with Ella and Emma, we were invited in to take a look at a painting.  We had shot a portrait session with the girls last year too, and from that session one photo was selected to be converted into a painting by an artist named Charlotte Meadows.  I’ve never had any of my photos converted into a real-deal painting before.  Pretty cool, eh?  Not that anybody asked me, but I heartily approve of this work.  Oh, and here’s the original photo from last year as reference:

Charlotte, if you’re out there please send me your contact info so I can let people know how to get in touch with you.

Ella and Emma

Ella and Emma

Denise and I shot a portrait session with these darling twin sisters Ella and Emma a few weeks ago.  Kids are always a challenge to photograph as they are very much their own creatures–posing kids is very much a broad strokes and hope for the best type of exercise.  Thankfully I’m not the posing type anyway, and these girls played happily while I snapped away.  Thanks for such a fun photo session! » Continue Reading…

Snow happy

Snow happy

It snowed on Friday!  Here in Mississippi we’re happy to get any snow at all, and if we do get it it’s usually only once the entire winter.  So Friday night as we were heading back home from Jackson we were snowed on the whole drive home.  Upon arrival we all bundled up and played in what meager snow we had.  Afterward, Denise made some hot chocolate to warm us up.  Not much more to say really.  I’ll let the pictures do the talking. » Continue Reading…
